3 Keys to a Great Seat
Переглядів 1,1 тис.14 днів тому
We all want a great seat. The ability to follow the horse’s movement. To stay balanced. To give subtle cues. Perhaps the most important - to stay on! When a rider has a good seat the horse can trip, spook, lose rhythm, and the rider won’t feel that unsettling loss of balance. I have a few videos on the seat that I want to share with you, covering the basics that you may have heard before (posit...

I m so invested. I dont even have a horse. I have a final exam tomorrow

On the flat is my choice of riding and I'm now in the market for a Dressage saddle at last. thanks for this video lady.
This is exactly the video I needed! I have been trying to stay in a neutral seat, but after only a short time I notice that I’ve reverted to an anterior seat without even realising it. I find it so frustrating that I constantly have to keep correcting myself, and I really hope that eventually it will become easier to maintain without requiring such conscious thought.
Tnx
Horses feels this. I am a deaf. I feel the vibes
❤ Are you still able to move your legs?
Aww is actually the same 😢 very sad 😞 and horrible feeling 😢 , so sad …… I “was “ so happy before hand . 🥹
Was waiting for a hoof to fly across the screen
I am good when doing trotting, but when I encourage myself to try loping, I immediately become tension, I am afraid of fall off.
As so happy to find you as a new rider in my late sixties. Thank you
This is so helpful. It solidifies what my instructor was explaining
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been working really hard to try and improve my seat and when I consciously sit in a neutral position after a little while I realise that I’ve reverted to sitting in an anterior seat with a closed hip angle. It’s a work in progress, but I’m eager to practice “breathing into my back”. Thanks much for these amazing and helpful instructional videos 😊
here in montana we have saying...I rather have a horse thats a little lazy.....then a little crazy
Leave the wild Mustangs in their mountain home....Their foals are being killed by the trappers who use whips and clubs.....They are going to slaughter meat plants in Mexico.
Im completely same , great wee advice ❤ 🥹
Mine tried to run off with me a couple of weeks ago, without any warning. We were cantering a circle and he broke the circle. I remember wind in my hair and bugs in my teeth. Fortunately the arena was not very big. I did the same stop that you should just not. I worked in our case. A one rein stop can throw a horse off balance, but Spirit got a taste of his own medicine.
Riding with constant contact shows that you do not understand pressure and release with proper timing, rhythm, and feel.
Very helpful
I've used the pulley rein on the hunt field. It's useful. I was taught to put the 1 hand on the withers. Pull with the other rein. Gives more leverage.
Another good idea is to make sure your mounting block is stable. Unless its literally cemented to the ground, you probably want to make sure its balanced, especially if youre mounting from an uneven surface like a slope or arena where the footing isnt quite even. Cannot tell you how many times Ive forgotten to do that and gone flying off the block when it tips over.
Where are you tapping him at on his body? It’s hard to see where it’s hitting. Thank you for this video!
You mentioned that you trim your horses feet? I do as well, but greatly struggle using nippers due to hard hooves. How do you develop the strength to do it?
In August 2011, a young horse I was riding fell down with me and gave me a TBI. There were several bleeds. I had a week stay in the hospital and one month of post-trauma amnesia. Had to learn to talk and walk all over again. I am back to riding horses again. Continuing to ride has helped recovery both physical and cognitive. I rode a lot prior to the accident and competed in Ranch Versatility. I got back to riding as soon as my doctor cleared me for it. I no longer start young horses or ride horses with major training deficits. I had started making bits and spurs prior to the accident. I now spend more time making them. I am mostly self-taught and work on improving how I do things each time. I do spend time helping others work on their horsemanship skills.
I’m in this place now. I’m 61 , and will be having surgery on my shoulder next week after a very bad fall. It will be some time before I can ride again but I’m dreading that time. I want to use my down time to work on my confidence.
Appears experienced riders stay in the saddle.
I tried to get on bare back, and he buked me off...
I would like to learn more abt nutrition
Good
wow - such a simple explanation but clearly shows the impact of our back position on the horse - thank you so much!
As a professional trainer of 40 years I stopped riding about 18 years ago due to fibromyalgia and just worked with miniature horses showing and training. 6 years ago I left the horse world all together for economical reasons but I am so desiring to return to riding but at 62 I am afraid that I can't do it anymore. I start to set up lessons and don't fallow through. I feel this program my be my key to return to horses. My dream is to go to Spain and learn classical dressage .
The horse I ride at my barn is so lazy he doesn’t even spook lol
Thank you for the informative video👍🏼
Can you use this technique for getting a more purposeful walk from your horse on the longe line?
my mother has an older Welsh cob, I've always been super comfortable riding him in a sitting trot, he just feels like a big a big sofa. my lease horse is a lot taller and has way longer legs (he's a dutch warmblood)and i absolutley cannot sit his trot (its also my first time riding in an english saddle, but i dont think that changes a lot)so i usually post in his trot however I'm still not super comfortable with it. this video really helped improve my sitting trot on him :]
So far the best video about mounting the horse... beautifully explained.
The demo of the twisted pelvis was enlightening
You should look into the new stirrups from Ryde Equestrian
I REALLY want to take lessons but I have my spine fused from T4-L1. I don’t have A LOT of flexibility in my lower spine but I can do it for short periods for sure. Will only having 4 vertebrae not fused in my lumbar spine inhibit my motion? My hips can tuck under me and can rotate my hips fairly well, I just can’t puff my chest out like a rooster- I see some riders doing a motion where its really fluid in the spine. I can put my hands on the floor so Leaning forward is easier than leaning back for me. Leaning back and I can only maybe go 5-10 degrees before I can’t look back anymore. Id love to do dressage. Would be the easiest on my spine I think
When you’re tipping her towards the fence are you using inside or outside leg with that outside rein?
Thank you!
Thank you for remembering those of us riding school horses!
horses are actually so majestic wtf?
U need to push ur heels down tho ?
Incredible 😮
Thanks so much. I really can’t keep my heels down with long stirrups. Now I know the tricks!
Thank you! As a 70 year old getting back to riding, this is helpful.
